Lucky Star's Community Assistance Initiatives were put into place to put something back into the community that purchases the Lucky Star products. Lucky Star is actively involved in the efforts of the following initiatives:
Lucky Star makes product contributions to the Starfish Foundation's Aids Orphan Project on a regular and sustained basis nationally. www.starfishcharity.org
Lucky Star has produced a booklet for the education of learners on the importance of a sustainable marine environment.
Lucky Star funds the Rural Heart and Stroke Foundation's Children program, taking nutritional expertise to childminders and teachers in rural crèches and primary schools nationally.
Lucky Star supports less privileged Grade 12 scholars to enable them to enter the Home Economics Olympiad, previously reserved for more economically stable schools. Lucky Star also supplies teaching aids to these schools.
Lucky Star supplies branded lap desks and other nutritional teaching aids to schools. The project is support by Desmond Tutu.
The Pick n Pay School Club was developed to inspire learners to feel excited about their schooling. Now in its sixth year, it’s widely acknowledged as one of the country’s most dynamic and successful channels through which schools benefit from business participation in the education of the adults of tomorrow.
The Club has on average five to 10 partners annually and creates teacher guides; learner worksheets; posters; competition entry kits; year planners and nutritional guideline booklets for over 50,000 educators and 1,4-million learners in over 1,840 South African schools: all of them being brand-funded. This makes the programme the largest independent educational material provider to schools in South Africa. Teachers, many of whom now have very few teaching aids to help inspire, guide and enthuse their learners, other than their chalk and a blackboard, express delight when receiving this free educational material from the Pick n Pay School Club.
The Pick n Pay School Club material is developed for the enrichment of all. All schools are welcome to photocopy or reproduce any of the content contained in the educational material and distribute for any educational purposes at
no charge. The material is also freely available to download on www.schoolclub.co.za.
